This Wednesday, the Latin American campaign for the liberation of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan was launched from Argentina, who has been imprisoned by the Turkish State on the prison island of Imrali since 1999. This movement has succeeded in gathering union leaders, legislators, representatives of human rights organizations, and activists from various political and social groups.

The deputy and various figures such as Celeste Fierro, a legislator for the MST-FIT-Unidad, have made clear their support for the campaign in solidarity with Öcalan, condemning the ideological and political persecution within Turkey. The importance of maintaining the unity of action among peoples when democratic rights are violated was emphasized, according to Fierro.

During this event, voices of solidarity and support for Öcalan were joined by representatives of various organizations such as the CTA Autonoma, the Workers' Party, the Academy of Democratic Modernity, among others. Signatures from 82 organizations from ten countries were collected on the first day of the Latin American campaign for Öcalan's freedom.

The conference addressed the current situation in Kurdistan, highlighting Turkish bombings in various Kurdish regions, as well as repression in Bakur and executions ordered by the Iranian State against Kurdish activists. It was noted that Öcalan suffers harsh isolation from the Turkish State, although it was mentioned that he is in good health and willing to lead a peace process.

Various political and social figures such as Alejandro Vilca, a deputy of the PTS, have denounced the severe oppression against the Kurdish people and expressed their support for the struggle for Öcalan's liberation. The campaign, which seeks to collect support signatures until November 23, has garnered the adhesion of a wide range of organizations in Latin America.
